Hello!

The Sassy Podcast is the creation of Janice Headley, aka me writing in the third person (which my phone just autocorrected to “tired” person, and y’know, Siri ain’t wrong).

Janice began reading Sassy as an impressionable pre-teen and credits the magazine for helping make her the woman she is today. She was inspired to start the podcast as a way of sharing this content and not letting it languish in cardboard boxes in basements or in your childhood bedroom that your parents keep threatening to turn into a gym.

In her personal life, Janice is a Content Producer at non-profit, listener-supported radio station KEXP. (That sheds a little light on to the catalyst for this project.) She lives in Michigan with her wonderful partner Joe and four (yep, count ‘em) ridiculous cats.

(This photo of a photo is of me as a senior in high school, circa 1995, snapped when I found out my Mom still carries my senior portrait in her wallet even though I’m now in my 40s.)

About Sassy Magazine (Really?)

Sassy was an influential publication aimed at teens that ran from 1988 to 1994 (with probz in 1995-96). Its editor-in-chief was Jane Pratt. For its entire history, we can’t recommend this book enough: How Sassy Changed My Life: A Love Letter to the Greatest Teen Magazine of All Time by Kara Jesella and Marisa Meltzer. Or, y’know, click here.

Where Are They Now?
